How To Use Anti Slice Golf Adjustments As Quick Fixes
April 17, 2007
If you tend to slice the golf ball occasionally when on the course, then some anti slice golf tips might come in useful to you as quick temporary fixes until you can finish your round.Professional players know all of these, but amateurs, and especially rookies, might be unaware of what they can do, or even of the effects if they do know. Here are three of them that are commonly used by professionals and good amateur golfers.
A Damage Limitation Exercise Can Be Effective The effect of a golf slice to a normal right handed player is to send the ball out to the right. This can frequently be quite far out to the right and into trees, other obstacles or even the next fairway or green. What you need is a damage limitation exercise that can save you from dropping any strokes at best and as few as possible at worst.
The first is based upon the visible effect of the ball curving out to the right (or left for a left handed player). It is quite logical to think that if your ball lands too far right than you should aim out to the left of the target. This is not a good way to deal with a slice on a long term basis, but it can be used as a quick fix if your slice develops during a round, and you recognize it for what it is. Simply aim left by the amount that you are landing right.
Many people find this difficult to do, since their ball can land twenty or thirty yards right of where they were aiming, and find it difficult to aim away out to the left of the trees that you should be avoiding to the right.
Sometimes it is just not possible to do that on a narrow fairway without clattering the ball into the trees, but more frequently it can be done. Many amateur golfers actually use this as a permanent solution and never cure their swing. They just compensate for it and play a curved game for the rest of their lives.
The shortest distance between two points is not a curve, and players who do this are losing a lot of distance on each shot, but if that suits them, and they are enjoying their game, then why not! They could, however, strengthen their grip a bit.
This is done by gripping the club more clockwise round the shaft and is the method that I recommend to you. Doing this turns the club face round to the ball quicker, and so straightens it up more before hitting the ball.
Many Slicers Use The Wrong Grip
Many slicers are using the wrong grip that causes their club face to be too open when it hit the ball. This means that it is turned slightly back at the toe when the ball is struck, which causes the clockwise spin on the ball that leads to the slice. A stronger grip can be a permanent cure for many players.
Others prefer the third possibility, which is to change the feet slightly. In the perfect swing, your feet should be in a line directly to the target. If your ball is curving offline out to the right, perhaps your feet are pointing in that direction, and they need turned slightly more to the left. This will do one of three things.
It will either cure your golf slice or make it worse. It could also cause you to simply drive your ball out to the left, but that is unlikely if you are slicing it. There are a number of possible rapid remedies for a golf slice, and in many cases which of these anti slice golf adjustments you choose to make will depend upon the cause of your particular slice.
If you cannot tell, then try a quick strengthening of your grip, and then aim to the left if that does not work. You don’t have time to practice during a round, but you should be aware of the possibilities so that you can apply them when necessary. The answer to many golfing problems.
