November 5, 2007

How can you achieve a full golf swing with no tension?  By implementing golf stretches into your golf improvement program.

There are so many benefits related to stretching your golf muscles that you can’t deny it.  You’ve got to embrace it…and just do it.

Stretches For Golfers

In order to receive the full benefit of stretches specific for golfers you need to break your golf swing down into segments.  For example take it half-way back and look at the position your body is in.  That’s one stretch.  Now take it to the top…that’s another stretch.

Complete the swing with stretches for each segment and you’ve just created your very own golf stretching routine

Stretching Consistently For A Better Golf Swing

Like anything…you must do it regularly to see results.  That doesn’t mean you have to kill yourself 60 minutes everyday.  In fact, Golf Fitness Expert Mike Pedersen has come out with a very unique golf stretching program that ONLY takes 7 minutes to complete.

This revolutionary golf stretching dvd has four 7 minute segments you can rotate throughout the week to avoid boredom and to stretch your golf muscles differently each time.

If you want to stretch the right way, you’ll want to take a look at Mike’s stretching for golf dvd today!

Find Out Who Invented The Game Of Golf

November 3, 2007

Golf goes WAY back. How far back. From what evidence shows, the game of golf was invented around the 11th century in the Netherlands. There are other theories it could have been Dutch or Chinese, but most counts point to the Scottish in the late 1500’s.

Some say that back in the late 1200’s in the Netherlands, there was a game played with a stick and ball made of leather. The goal was to hit the ball into a target several football fields in length away the most times won the competition.

When we think of the more modern game of golf, it was the Scottish. This might be a little misleading, as this mentioned game was called gowf. The game we know of putting a smallish ball in the ground using clubs was back in the 17th century in the Netherlands.

The word golf is derived from the Dutch word kolf which means stick, club or bat.

The oldest golf course in the world is The Old Links at Musselburgh Racecourse. There is evidence that golf was played on this course back in 1672, although people sayMary, teh Queen of Scots played there in 1567.

Learn To Stack And Tilt Your Golf Swing - Part 1

October 8, 2007

I‘ll bet your wondering what the heck is a stack and tilt golf swing right? Have you ever heard it before? If you have, you most likely read about it in the Golf Digest Magazine. In the past few months they’ve had quite a bit of coverage on it, as well as strong responses from some of the top golf instructors from around the US.

Stack and Tilt Setup SwingThere are several main differences from the setup, backswing, downswing, impact and follow through. It definitely goes against the grain of fundamental golf.

Look at the setup to the right (pictures provided by Golf Digest Magazine). The stack and tilt player on the left is right on top of the ball, and the conventional player is set up with a spine tilt behind the ball.

That in itself is a dramatic difference. It’s as if the non-conventional player is setting himself of for a reverse pivot already!

Everything in the stack and tilt player is level except his right hand being lower on the grip, causing his right shoulder to be only slightly lower than the left. The spine has no angle to it, with the head being right on top of the ball.

Notice the conventional player with hands ahead of ball; head behind ball; right shoulder significantly lower than left. Everything is behind the ball except the left leg for the most part.

We will be talking more about the Stack And Tilt Golf Swing in Part 2!

Why Don’t Golfers Improve

September 18, 2007

The USGA states handicaps for amateur golfers have not gone down in 20 years! Wow! With all the technology golfers aren’t improving? How can that be? Why is this happening?

There are many reasons why golfers don’t improve!

Could be as simple as poor fundamentals. Lack of practice. Inadequate equipment. Unrealistic expectations. Bad course strategy. A whole host of other possibilities, but lasering in on your specific cause is what you need to do.

You know your game. You probably know what you’re doing wrong, but aren’t attacking it to make it better. It’s so easy to ignore the stuff we don’t want to work on, but we are only hurting ourselves in the process.

You may have to go back to the basics with grip, stance, and posture. That may be the trick! Or it might be just a certain phase of your golf swing. The initial take-away, at the top, coming down.

Get a video lesson so you can take it home and study it! This will be a real eye-opener for you. Get your pro to draw all the lines on the screen so you can see what’s happening.

Taking this approach will help you lower your scores and not be a statistic with the USGA!

Golf Instruction Books To Improve Your Golf Swing

September 10, 2007

There are a ton of golf instruction books on the market, by all the big name teachers, but what I’ve found is they have forgotten how it is to be an average hack golfer.  For those of us who are, we need simple tips and techniques to get us over the hump of hacking up every round.

Having been on the net for many years now, I’ve come across several golf instruction ebooks I think are worthy of trying.  I’ll list a couple here and you can make your decision, but they all are very good in their simple approaches and results.

Golf Swing Eureka

I really like this downloable ebook.  Jon is a good friend of mine and he has done a fabulous job at helping amateur golfers play better golf.

Here’s just a couple things this book promises:

  • Open your Eyes to aspects of the Pro Golfers swing that few golfers know about - but which made dramatic improvements to my swing.
  •  Give you a rock solid foundation on which to base your swing development - I keep going back to this fundamental fact time and time again (I have not seen this anywhere else).
  •  Correct a misperception that 80% of amateur golfers have about where the power REALLY comes from in the golf swing.
  •  Provide you with the tools to allow your mind to truly accept how the Pro golfer produces Power without Effort - 99% of amateur golfers need this - I still cannot believe the difference this made to my swing!

The Simple Golf Swing

David Nevogt has taken the golf swing all the down to it’s simplist form!  He has hundreds and hundreds of “real life” success stories to prove it! Just reading his webpage is enough to give it a try…and he even has a FREE trial of his ground-breaking “Golf Apprentice Program”.

This ebook covers every aspect of your golf swing, but so simple a 10 year old could apply it and play good golf!

Here’s a few critical things the book promises:

  • You will find a step-by-step guide with detailed photos that will teach you the correct way to grip the club. Instructions for the interlocking and the overlapping grip are included. This will let you experiment to see what works best for YOU.
Learn a method to check that you grip the club in the same manner for every shot to promote consistency.
  • Learn a detailed procedure that will ensure that your grip promotes straight ball flight, and not a hook or a slice.
  • Learn a secret on how to align the club face so that you don’t push the ball right. This is a problem that many golfers face, but luckily it is an easy one to fix.

As you can see, these are two really great ebooks to help you play better golf!  Just click on the buttons below each image to read more.

Make More Putts - Lower Your Score

August 12, 2007

If you’re looking to lower your golf score, you need to make more putts.  Plain and simple!  For most amateurs, putting is nearly half your score.  With 50% of your score involving putting, it makes total sense to practice your putting doesn’t it? This element of practice does not take more than 10-15 minutes at a time, so you should definitely incorporate it into your golf improvement plan.

Improve Your Putting Stroke

The main issue with putting is your stroke.  That is the overall path, tempo and speed of your stroke!  This will determine your ability to make more short putts, and lag your long putts as close as you can.

Improve your putting stroke and your scores will plummet! Working specifically on tempo during one practice session, then on path during another session, then speed on yet another session will quickly improve your putting.

Incorporate Putting Drills

One very effective method of improving your putting is by incorporating golf putting drills to your regiment. There are many short putt drills, tempo drills, speed drills and even lag putting drills you can do to get better at every length putt you’ll be faced with during a round of golf.

Putting drills engrain a sense of muscle-memory to your putts.  Do them just a few times and you’ll be able to bring it to the course!

Golf Putting DVD

One choice you have is to purchase a golf putting dvd to improve your putting.  This makes it convenient, easy and a no-brainer choice.  In the comfort of your own home you can ingrain golf putting to your game.  A good putting dvd will have tips, drills and practice routines that will quickly improve your putting.

DVDs are now becoming so inexpensive it makes for a better option for golfers who are not close to a teaching facility or can’t afford a putting lesson that can cost up to $100.  Many golf dvds range between $25-$50, so you can see it is much less than only ONE lesson.

You can play your dvd over and over again.  Especially when your putting goes south.  It’s a great resource to go back to instead of an expensive putting lesson.
