A Golf Betting Tip For Everbody

Published in General

Probably the best golf betting tip you can be given is to know your game before you bet.  Never leave your bet entirely to chance or you are likely to lose.  You might know how to play golf, but do you really understand the game?  Do you know the players and what their strengths and weaknesses are?  Do you understand the courses and what specific demands they place upon players?

Get to Know the Course and the Players

If not, before any tournament that you intend to bet on, read up as much as possible about the golf course involved and the players.  If the course is long who are the big hitters in the field, and how have they done on this course in the past?  What types of players tend to win the Masters at Augusta?  The more you know about the course and the players, as well as the history of the competition, then the more likely you are to make proper money, rather than just betting on Tiger Woods to win all the time.

This will not give you a great return on your money.  It would be far better if you could pick out golfers who seem to suit the course, and bet on them.  Don’t bet on them necessarily to win, but to be placed.  This could be at least second or third, or to be in the top ten or even to make the cut.  The different types of bets you can make in golf are almost limitless.

Three Ball Bets are Popular

Take the three ball bet, for example.  For the purpose of your bet you can name three golfers, or two or even more, and bet on a single round for one of them to have to the lowest round.  You can make a lot of money if you are able to match players to a particular course from past performance or even current form.  You can do this for each round

There are, of course, two kinds of betting on a golf course, the first being as above, where you bet on a particular outcome in a game.  However, golfers often bet between themselves, and there are a few different ways in which this can be done.

A popular bet is the Nassau, where you bet on the lowest score for the front nine, the back nine and the whole round.  Non professional players often go for the $2 bet, so there is not a lot of money involved.  However, regardless of what money is involved, a good tip with a Nassau is to press when your bet looks like going down on the front nine.

There are no strict rules on pressing, so make sure you know the rule being applied when you do it.  For example, if you are down a hole or two while on the sixth hole, you can press holes 6 – 9 with another $2 bet.  If you win over these three, either you and your opponent both win, or it’s a wash.  But make sure you know the rules.  You can press on the front nine or the back nine, or at anytime over the whole round.

Bet on the Traps and the Trees

Another series of popular bets between buddies relates to specific accomplishments.  For example in Sandies, a golfer wins the bet by making par after being in a sand trap, or by getting up and down from a trap.  In barkies, the bet is one making a par after hitting a tree. The amount paid to each person accomplishing the feat is decided beforehand.

Arnies is a good one, whereby the player wins by making par without having hit the fairway, though a favorite is Gruesomes involving teams of two.  Each player drives off, and each twosome decides which of the drives the other pair should play – usually the most ‘gruesome’ of the twosome!

There are not many tips that can be provided for these type of bets, but if you are thinking of betting serious money on the outcome of tournaments, a good golf betting tip you can be given is that if you do not know the game, the courses or the players very well, then don’t do it!
