What is the main source of power in your golf swing? Is it swinging harder? Is it swing faster? How about a full backswing? Or maybe a complete follow through? There are many possible answers to this question, and if you line up 100 golf instructors, they would probably all tell you something different.
We know without a shadow of a doubt that solid ball/clubface contact is critical to maximum distance. We also know to achieve this you need optimal swing mechanics combined with tempo.
I don’t want to scare you away into thinking that more power in your swing is impossible, but you do need to be aware of what the source is and how to harness it into longer drives that stay in the fairway!
So with the above being mentioned, the ’secret’ source is clubhead speed and solid ball contact. If you can have a higher level of clubhead speed, and deliver the club solidly into the ball, you will maximize your power and distance.
Where golfers go wrong is swinging harder, and not hitting the ball solidly. The end-result is shorter drives that don’t stay in the fairway. It is not effort in golf! It is “controlled” speed that creates distance. The higher your swing speed is (but under control) will give you the farthest distance off the tee.
