Golf Schools In Las Vegas For Fun And Learning

Published in Golf School Instruction

If you’re looking for a fun golf learning experience that combines great golf courses, outstanding instruction and nights of excitement, then golf schools in Las Vegas is what you need!

Las Vegas Golf Courses

Some of the more popular golf courses in Las Vegas are the Rio Secco Golf Club, Royal Links Golf Club, Bali Hai Golf Club, Anthem Country Club, and Desert Pine’s Golf Club.

If you want to experience some outrageously priced courses in Las Vegas, you’ll try Cascata which will take $500 of your money.  Or maybe Red Rock Country Club for a measely $325.

What you get is stunning golf courses, impeccable weather, superior dining and instruction that is as good as anywhere else in the country.

Golf Instruction In Las Vegas

Teaching pros flock Las Vegas for the opportunity to give lessons at a top golf resort or golf school. Golf instruction in Las Vegas has attracted some of the top instructors like Butch Harmon who previously coached Tiger Woods.

Many of these well-known instructors run a seasonal golf school meaning in the winter they are teaching golf in Las Vegas, and in the summer at their main golf course most likely in the midwest or east.

Golf Schools And The Strip

One of the biggest perks of going to a golf school in Las Vegas is the nightlife. If you make it a guys trip, you can hit many of the clubs on the strip or gamble away all your money at the Caesars, MGM, Mandalay Bay, Venetian, Mirage, Wynn, or if you want to spend a wad, go to the Bellagio.

Golf Technique Should Be Kept Simple

Published in Golf School Instruction

If you’re a student of the game like I am, you’ve worked on your golf technique like a madman right?  You’ve spent hours and hours reading instruction books for golf, watching videos (dvds), maybe even going to a golf school or two, and hitting hundreds of balls.

No Perfect Golf Swing

If you’re looking for the perfect golf swing technique it doesn’t exist.  There is no such thing!  Your body is capable of swinging a club a certain way, give or take some technique improvement.

As you get older it will decline, but if you stay fit and flexible, you’ll be able to maintain a proper swing for many years.

Practice Technique Realistically

You can work on your swing technique with the guidance of a good instructor or credible book.  But be realistic in your expectations.  Golf is a hard game to conquer.  I’ve seen hundreds of golfers struggle to get better, even after taking lessons, practicing and playing every week.

Proper golf technique can be attained, but don’t expect to reach a level of proficiency equal to the pros.  Not going to happen.  If you can see improvement in your game, that’s a huge victory.

An ESPN Golf School Is Great For Beginners

Published in Golf School Instruction

If you are just starting out in golf, or one of your children is at an age where they are ready for some professional instruction, you could hardly do better than send them for a day to an ESPN Golf School. These schools tour round the country offering one day instruction courses designed for complete beginners and for experienced professionals, though they are focused so that different abilities do not mix.

Your Youngster is Provided with all the Golf Equipment Needed

Along with the coaching, your youngster will also be provided with a Nike golf bag, a wood and set of irons, and a putter. Everything they need, in fact, to start playing and make use of the great schooling they are about to receive. The golf balls are not mentioned, but I am sure they will there somewhere! You can’t fault the instruction provided that covers every part of the game, not only the mechanics.

Instruction is provided not only in the basic grip, stance and golf swing, but also other essential aspects of golf, such as scoring and golf etiquette, that most people pick up as they play. It really is a wonderful day for a youngster, and designed for those that have never played before and don’t yet have their own equipment. The ESPN Beginners Tour is not restricted to youngsters of course, and anybody who wants to take up the game can join.

Resort Schools offer Top Class Facilities

If you are more experienced, there are three day resort schools available where you can either commute to the course or take up one of the residential packages available. These are not cheap, but you get what you pay for including some ‘free’ apparel and golfing equipment thrown in. All included in the price, of course! The courses are excellent, such as the Badlands Golf Club in Las Vegas and the accommodation five star, exemplified by that provided by the Deerhurst Resort in Toronto.

If you are more advanced, and are looking for something a bit more personal, the Hank Haney Signature Golf School offers one to one tuition from Hank, the Dean of Instruction. This includes the Nike custom club fitting system and the instruction includes coaching in all aspects of the game, including course management.

Get a Fitted Driver at the ESPN Power School

Those who need a bit of work done on their length can join the Power Tour where you are given instruction in the four key elements of a powerful drive: swing mechanics, ball prescription, club fitting and fitness and flexibility. You are given a fitted Nike driver, golf balls and a power swing trainer to help you along. All included in the price.

Alternatively, you might have a corporate day coming up. You can either host a private ESPN Golf School at your local course, or ESPN can visit your corporate event and provide services such a video imaging of the swing of your clients, demonstrations of club fitting and even follow-up online tuition based on the video swing analysis, that you can use as a marketing tool to keep in touch with potential customers.

You get What you Pay For

An ESPN Golf School is not only great for beginners and tournament pros, but can also help your company in its business activities. The down side is the cost, and while that rarely matters with corporate events, the residential resort courses can be expensive. The beginner’s courses, however, are excellent value given the equipment provided with the tuition.

Golf Instruction Clinics Or Schools…Are They The Same?

Published in Golf School Instruction

Have you ever been to a golf instruction clinic before? Usually it is the head teaching pro at your local or private golf club. He/she puts on a clinic specific to a particular phase or shot in your golf swing.

Anything from a short game clinic to full swing. So what is the difference between a golf clinic and school? Usually the golf school is of bigger scope. It covers all asplects of the game including full swing, swing faults, short game (bunker, chipping, pitching, putting) and other aspects.

Golf schools are usually a lot more money, since they do cover more aspects and have more golfers in them. They have to employ more instructors to keep the teacher/student ratio at a good level, so the golfer has adequate attention to his/her needs.

Golf clinics can even be on a regular basis at your club. For example, every Tuesday there might be a different clinic by the same teacher, or a different one, convering a different aspect of the game. These types of clinics are very popular among beginning and amateur golfers who don’t have a good understanding of fundamentals.

Take a look at your current needs as a golfer to help you make a decision on what type of instruction to undertake. If you have a specific need, you might want a one-on-one lesson to get 100% of attention from you instructor.

If you’re looking to improve your bunker play, you could sign up for the next bunker or short game clinic. But if you want to learn every aspect of the game from full swing to putting, then a full on golf instruction school would be your best choice.

When considering price, you will get more bang for your buck staying local. Either at your club, or a nearby practice range with certified instructors. The “high-end” schools like the Dave Pelz schools, or the ESPN Golf Schools will hit your wallet a thousand or more.

Short Game Golf Schools Are Worth The Money

Published in Golf School Instruction

Imagine how many strokes you could shave off your score with a better short game? It is so critical to golf improvement that entire golf schools are built around it.

The most well known school is by Dave Pelz. Mr. Pelz is the world famous short game and putting guru, who works with some of the top touring pros. He has made a science out of the short game and can bring it to you in one of his specialized, short game schools.

There are many topics covered in a school like this. For example, wedges, pitching, chipping, putting and bunker play. How many strokes do you think you give up in these areas? Maybe 3,4 or a half dozen? I would say the average 15-20 handicapper would give up 2-3 strokes just on putting alone. Probably another 1-2 from chipping. Maybe 1 eacch on pitching and bunker play.

Add up those strokes and you’ve got an easy 6 strokes that could be eliminated from a short game lesson or ‘full on’ short game golf school instruction. These golf schools are not cheap, but you are also paying for the name with Dave Pelz. Some other short game schools are Bird Golf Academy and the Jim McLean golf school to name a few.

Breaking down the short game into manageable sections like bunker, chipping, pitching and putting, allows you to retain it better and be able to take it home with you. And remember…you will be exposed to tips and secrets you never knew before, giving you the edge over your playing partners when you get on the course to play.

Golf School Instruction

Published in Golf School Instruction

Have you ever experienced a golf school for instruction? They have become very popular the last few years, but there are so many now, it is hard to weed out the good from the bad. I am a firm believer in learning the golf swing and all the phases of better golf…including putting, chipping, wedge play, bunkers and full swing.

Most golf schoos cover all of these in detail, but the key is to get the “hands-on” you need to retain it and take it home with you. If you can get a decent student/teacher ratio, you’ll be well on your way to a better game.

In this section of the site, we’ll be researching and getting back to you on every facet of golf instruction schools to give you the knowledge to make a wise choice without feeling like you made a mistake.

Golf Instruction Via School Is An Approach That Works For Some

Published in Golf School Instruction

Golf school instruction is usually an arrangement that goes for two days, typically a weekend. Some schools vary their curriculum to be half days, whole days, two days and even three day schools.

Golf Schools Aren’t Cheap

Golf schools can range from a couple hundred dollars to several thousand. If you go with a BIG name instructor like Butch Harmon, David Leadbetter or Rick Smith…you’re going to pay in the thousands.

Golf Instructor Guidance

My main beef with this is the quality of instruction…and the lack of one-on-one attention you get. They put their big names behind it, but when you show up, they are no where to be found. You end up in a group with a ratio of 5:1, meaning for every teacher, there are 5 golfers who get his attention.

In my mind, this does not warrant enough guidance to see improvement and get your investment back. I have heard horror stories of golfers coming back more confused and frustrated than before they left…and worse yet!!! They are out a couple of thousand dollars now.

Instruction That Works

Every golfer responds differently to each unique instruction approach. Some are fine in a group setting, others need more private, one-on-one time with their instructor. Keep that in mind when you give a golf school a thought for your next instruction less.
