Golf Swing Takeaway Tip

September 15, 2008

Here’s an easy golf swing takeaway tip you can apply right now…and see instant results in your golf swing tempo and consistency. This tip is one that Tiger Woods implements on every golf swing he makes, and obviously it’s working for him.

The takeaway tip I want to talk about is the “one-piece” move away from the golf ball. You may have heard this tip before, but do you practice it on every swing? I know I get lazy and forget it, and all of a sudden I find myself using my hands too much; breaking my wrists too early; or picking the club up instead of sweeping it back.

So let’s look at the picture to the right here. See the red triangle? That’s the “one-piece” takeaway I’m talking about.

See how low to the ground the clubhead is at this point? The golfer is taking the club back with his shoulders, arms and hands very connected. This makes it very easy to be consistent; keep your swing on plane; and get maximum width in your backswing.

Every golfer should be taking the club back with this simple technique. This is the modern golf swing, and elminates all the moving parts of the hands, wrists, and arms from your golf swing.

Just remember…every time you move a bodypart independent of your swing, you are adding another compensation you need to make when you are coming back to the ball. This creates many inconsistencies and mishits that you don’t want.
